I didn't feel like making New Year's resolutions this year. Why bother? I don't need a new year to commit to dieting or working out. I commit to those things most Monday mornings already, with little effect. Some say such resolutions can even be bad for your health. Furthermore, at the age of 45, I pretty much feel that I am what I am, anyway.
But that doesn't mean there isn't room for change. Maybe, particularly at midlife, it's a good time to try new things -- to see what we can achieve within the skin we have grown comfortable in. Maybe, instead of trying to change ourselves, it's time to look at making small changes -- changes that may add to the quality of our life, or give us new ways of thinking, or simply add a bit more flavor to every day.
So I have committed to trying something new each month. The first month, it will be something I know I could do better -- cleaning. Other months, it might be something that simply sounds fun -- like dog dancing. Or perhaps I'll finally sit down and read "War and Peace." And I'll write about my progress along the way.
I hope you enjoy following along. Please send your comments at any time. And if you feel like joining in, or trying your own new projects, definitely let me know.
